2 Wool Washing Machine
A machine for washing raw wool usually arranged with four bowls. Each of these is provided with a pair of squeezing rollers and also rake mechanism for propelling the wool through the liquor towards the outlet end. The constituents of the detergents in the bath are progressively weaker from the first or steeping bowl, to the last or rinsing bowl. Some wool washing machines have a spiral conveyor below the perforated plates of the bowls, and which is slowly rotated to remove the dirt from the machine.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Wool Washing Machine

3 Wool Yield
Raw wool in the greasy state contains a great amount of extraneous dirt and grease. Before wool is made into yarn, the dirt and a large proportion of the grease or fat is removed by washing, preceded sometimes by a shaking or dusting operation which shakes out loose dirt. The yield of clean wool varies with the locality where the sheep have been reared, and may be from 45 per cent to 75 per cent of the greasy weight. -
4 Wool Washing
The process of cleansing raw wool by a washing process conducted in a large machine generally with four bowls. The most usual detergents are soap and alkali used in various proportions for different wools in a considerable quantity of water. The temperature of the washing liquors is important and might be 120 deg. F. or 130 deg. F. in the first and second bowls with successive lower temperatures in the third and fourth bowls. The impurities removed are considerable, and might be 50 per cent or more of the greasy weight of the wool. -

Coarse jute fabric used for the packs or wrappers for raw wool during transit. -
6 Raw Material Dyed Yarns

7 Oiling Wool
During the scouring of raw wool the natural " suint " is removed and if the wool were passed on to the carding machines in this dry condition, much waste of fibre would occur, so oil is applied to the wool to restore it to a condition in which it can be treated on the card and on other machines without damage to the wool. -

Raw wool that has burrs entangled among the fibres. -
